Too Good for Drugs
During our second session of T.G.F.D., Deputy Seward discussed the importance of communication. We learned that communication involves a sender and receiver of information, and that messages can be sent verbally and non-verbally. Once again, students received a homework assignment that should be completed with their families to reinforce the ideas shared during session 2.
Spelling Bees
Each student received a list of words for our upcoming spelling bees. We will hold 2 classroom bees: a practice bee on Friday, January 18, and our official classroom bee on Thursday, January 24. The winner and runner-up from our official classroom bee will participate in the 5th grade bee which will be scheduled the week of January 28.
Subject Update:
- Spelling - The Lesson 15 pretest will be given on Monday. The students will be assigned homework during the week to practice their words, and a final test will be given Friday. *Students may only print up to 5 words on the tests "just in case" they are unsure of their cursive! Please continue to review cursive at home!!
- English - The students will learn about object pronouns, the correct way to use the pronouns I and me, and possessive pronouns.
- Reading - We will continue our unit on figurative language. Students will be writing their own examples and locating examples in poetry. 2nd Quarter Reading Project - The next reading project will not be announced until this quarter officially ends.
- Science - Students will learn more about the organization of the Periodic Table of Elements and the differences between the three states of matter. We will also learn about some physical changes of matter.
- Social Studies - We are reading Lesson 2 about the French exploring the Mississippi River and expanding New France. Lesson 3 will teach us about the French and Indian War.
- Mrs. Strong's Math Class - We will be adding, subtracting, and dividing integers.
