Too Good for Drugs
During our 6th session of T.G.F.D., Deputy Seward shared a power point presentation about tobacco. Students learned different ways people use tobacco and how each of those uses negatively affects the human body. Students received a fact sheet about tobacco that should be shared and discussed with a parent.
Valentine Reminders
Students will be able to exchange Valentines with classmates on February 14. Please note that if students choose to exchange Valentines, they should bring one for each classmate. A class list was sent home with students on Wednesday. Also, students will not be permitted to exchange with students outside of our classroom.
Subject Update:
- Spelling - The Lesson 19 pretest will be given on Monday. The students will be assigned homework during the week to practice their words, and a final test will be given Friday. *Students must use cursive handwriting on all tests!
- English - The students will work on another writing piece for their "Me Front Page" newspaper projects. We will also begin our next grammar unit on adjectives. Adjectives are words that describe nouns or pronouns.
- Reading - We will continue to focus on identifying author's viewpoint as we read various stories. Authors often show their viewpoint, or opinion, through their word choice, information included or left out, and purpose for writing. 2nd Quarter Reading Project - Students should be reading their mystery books. Projects are due by Tuesday, March 12!
- Science - Students will review all about matter and physical vs. chemical properties and changes. The Chapter 14 Test is scheduled for Thursday, February 14!
- Social Studies - We will read how certain events in Boston brought the colonies and Britain closer to war.
- Mrs. Strong's Math Class - We have begun Chapter 6 with concepts of number theory: divisibility rules, prime and composite numbers, and prime factorization. Next, we will find equivalent fractions, identify the greatest common factor (GCF) of two or more numbers, and use different strategies to find the simplest form of fractions.
