Too Good for Drugs
During our 5th session of T.G.F.D., Deputy Seward discussed how the decisions we make are influenced by friends and family, as well as our own personal values. Although students did not receive a homework assignment, I encourage families to share with each other about times when important decisions had to be made and how others influenced those decisions.
Looking Ahead... Valentine Tidbits
Students will be able to exchange Valentines with classmates on Valentine's Day. Please note that if students choose to exchange Valentines, they should bring one for each classmate. Also, students will not be permitted to exchange with students outside of our classroom. I will send a class list home with students next week.
Subject Update:
- Spelling - The Lesson 18 pretest will be given on Monday. The students will be assigned homework during the week to practice their words, and a final test will be given Friday. *Students must use cursive handwriting on all tests!
- English - The students will work on a writing piece for a "Me Front Page" newspaper project.
- Reading - We will focus on identifying author's viewpoint as we read various stories. Authors often show their viewpoint, or opinion, through their word choice, information included or left out, and purpose for writing. 2nd Quarter Reading Project - Students should begin reading their mystery books. Projects are due by Tuesday, March 12!
- Science - Students have learned about the physical properties and changes of matter. Lesson 3 will now help us understand chemical properties and changes.
- Social Studies - We will continue to read about the taxes imposed on the colonists and different ways they protested against them.
- Mrs. Strong's Math Class - There is a Chapter 5 Test scheduled for Tuesday, February 5! Then we will move into the next chapter for some number theory and fractions.
