WEEK OF APRIL 13

P.R.I.D.E! Awards
We had so many exciting things going on before Spring Break that I forgot to announce our March PRIDE! winners. Congratulations to Kaylee for putting the P in Pride for her "Positive Attitude." Also, new in March was the exclamation mark, added to our award ceremony to honor someone who is spectacular during special area classes (like Art and Music). Congratulations to Abdul Samad for earning the first award of its kind. We are proud of the two of you!

Subject Update:

ELA (English/Language Arts)
  • Spelling - The Lesson 29 pretest will be given on Monday. The students will be assigned homework during the week to practice their words, and a final test will be given Friday. *Students will only be able to print 5 words "just in case" their cursive still needs work starting this week.
  • English - The students will continue their grammar unit on adjectives. They will work with proper adjectives and prepare for the Unit 4 Adjectives Test scheduled for Friday, April 17th.
  • Reading -We will be launching our last theme of the year, Hardships in History. Students will read various texts to help them answer our essential questions: How does the time period of the hardship impact future decisions and events? How are hardships in history similar and different?
Science - Students will review about waves, tides, and currents. Then we will take a look at the forces that shape shorelines.

Social Studies - We will review for the Chapter 8 Test scheduled for Tuesday, April 14th. Students will also continue working on a special project incorporating our cause/effect work and important events from Chapter 8.

Mrs. Strong's Math Class - We will continue Unit 6 on addition and subtraction of fractions. Students will be given opportunities for some problem-based learning next week. This means that they will be provided a real-life challenge involving fractions to solve.
