WEEK OF FEBRUARY 15

Too Good For Drugs
We did not have Too Good For Drugs this past week due to our Valentine activities and no school on Friday. Our next session will be on February 19th.

Classroom Reward
Students earned a classroom reward for good behavior. They will be having a movie lunch on Wednesday, February 17th. Students may bring a stuffed animal and dress in "comfy clothes" for this special treat.

Thank You to Valentine Volunteers
A special thanks to Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Singh, and Mrs. Youngfelt for planning and running a great party. Also, thank you to Mrs. Coronado and Mrs. Orzechowska for providing paper goods, treats, and drinks for us to enjoy. Our hearts were all a-flutter from all the fun!

Subject Update:

  • ELA (English/Language Arts) - We will continue our theme Nature's Fury with a focus on hurricanes. We will identify the two "ingredients" for a hurricane, and create a cause-effect chain that shows the progression of events in the development of a hurricane. Students will continue to add information to their K-W-L charts, work with vocabulary, and write responses to questions about natural disasters. Students will take the Word Work List #8 Assessment on Tuesday, then do activities to review all of the word parts we have studied so far.
  • Science - We will continue to learn about the water cycle and how it relates to weather. We will take a look at different types of clouds that may form as water condenses in the atmosphere.
  • Social Studies - Students will zoom in to take an even closer look at everyday life in the colonies. They will read to understand how children studied and played, the importance of religion, what people read for entertainment, and typical colonial meals.
  • Mrs. Strong's Math Class - We will continue Topic 5. Students will learn how to apply the Distributive Property to multiply a whole number by a mixed number, and solve some real world problems involving multiplication of fractions, mixed numbers, and/or whole numbers. A homework review over Lessons 3-5 is planned for later in the week.
