WEEK OF FEBRUARY 8

Too Good For Drugs
During our 8th session of T.G.F.D., Deputy Seward shared a power point presentation about marijuana. Students received a fact sheet that should be shared and discussed with a parent.

PRIDE! Awards
Congratulations to Tayler for earning the award for Positive Attitude! Tayler serves as a great model for others to follow!

Trade Fair
We held a successful Trade Fair on Friday! I was amazed at the skills and creativity of my class. We saw such a variety of products - cookies, luggage/backpack tags, tin pictures, bread knots, foot hammocks, silly putty, and flower poms, just to name a few. The other celebration about our Trade Fair was the kind words and actions by the students. It is wonderful to see a group of students show such respect towards each other! Here are a couple of pictures from our fair.

Subject Update:

  • ELA (English/Language Arts) - We will continue our theme Nature's Fury with a focus on hurricanes. We will identify the two "ingredients" for a hurricane, and create a cause-effect chain that shows the progression of events in the development of a hurricane. Students will continue to add information to their K-W-L charts, work with vocabulary, and write responses to questions about natural disasters. Students will also continue working with Word Work List #8.
  • Science - We will review what we have learned about local and prevailing winds. Ask your child to explain the difference between these two types of winds. Later in the week, we will start the next lesson about the water cycle.
  • Social Studies - Students will use the information learned in Lesson 2 to help them compare and contrast colonial cities, towns, and farms.
  • Mrs. Strong's Math Class - We will continue Topic 5. Students will take a brief Topic 5, L. 1-2 Homework Review on Tuesday. Then we will learn how to multiply when there are mixed numbers. Again, we will use visual models to help us understand the concept before learning how to calculate using just numbers.
